We always suggest that you speak to your local authority social services department (we can provide you the contact details upon request) or contact your local GP, both options are a good starting point.
The local authority will carry out an assessment of your needs and personal circumstances. You are entitled to this assessment regardless of your financial position. Once your assessment has been completed you may also need to be financially assessed to determine whether you need to contribute toward the cost of the local authority’s care services.
If you do not meet the local authorities criteria for care and support, have savings and investments of more than £23,555 (joint savings over £46,500) or you do not wish to disclose your financial position to the local authority you will be financially responsible for your own care needs. If this is the case, we are able to visit you to offer you advice and guidance to ensure you are accessing all of the financial support available to you.
